the greatest makeup challenge of all

For those of you who have stayed totally and completely glued in to my search for the perfect moisturizer with SPF, you know it hasn’t been an easy road. I’ve been desperately looking for something that would replace my old go-to Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturizer, which I had to break up with last fall because it was chock-full of parabens. And my new hormonal acne has only exacerbated my need to solve this cosmetic riddle!

When it comes to skin care or makeup requirements, I’m on high maintenance end of the spectrum. I’ve been “burned” before by lies and false claims. Full coverage! Dewey finish! Fragrance free! Organic!

If I were to take out an ad, it would look something like this:

MWF, 42 dx with stage 1, IDC/DCIS ER/PR+ and HER2- seeks every day tinted moisturizer. Must be oil free and not clog pores, SPF 20 or greater, and paraben free. No PPG, PEG, EDTA, or silicone derivatives a plus. I just got out of a long-term monogamous relationship and I’m not afraid of commitment. Please, anything that smells like dirt need not apply.

I’ve recently come across 4 new beauty sites which promote non toxic beauty without sacrificing the luxury that often comes with organic products.

  • Organic Beauty Talk is an online source for eco and organic beauty. They feature daily product reviews and giveaways. They are also part of the Lucky Magazine Style Collective. Check out their list of ingredients to avoid “terrible touch me nots” and the list of editor’s favorites.
  • Spirit Beauty Lounge is the place to go for more product reviews and shopping.  Their shopping site is easy to use and has tons of high end luxurious eco-friendly brands with no chemicals. Their “must haves” and expert picks are a good place to start. And bonus! For $25 you can get up to 6 samples free shipping and they’ll send you a $5 voucher for your next purchase.
  • Genuine Glow is another blog that showcases products reviews in beauty and makeup and skincare that are all natural and non toxic.  My fav sections are What’s in my Makeup Bag and Best of 2013.
  • Eco Diva Beauty is a combination blog and shopping site with product reviews on non-toxic and eco-friendly beauty, hair and body products.

So while I’m waiting for my new boobs to grow in,  (I got my 2nd fill on Thursday….easy does it 50 ccs at a time) I’ve been thoroughly entrenched in the world of green beauty. What did I buy? Click here to find out.
