Favs for Spring
Every year without a doubt, some stylist comes out with a list of Top 10 Essentials no Closet should be without. And I read these lists with rabid curiosity and agree with some, and grew a little bored (yawn) with others. Been-there-done-that, don’t you know?
Fashion should be F-U-N and if you’re not having any with it, then keep trying!
Here are my fav picks for spring that will liven up your wardrobe:
1. Denim Jacket – this is a go-to as it works with maxi skirts and dresses and everything else in between. I know that the denim on denim trend is back, so if you’re feeling brave to attempt this, I say go for it. It’s not for the faint of heart! I like my denim jackets slim fitting, cropped, and with a little stretch.

all that glitters is gold
Maybe it’s that post Olympic letdown, but I’ve got gold on my mind. As in gold sandals. It’s the perfect neutral, but with a little bling. It elevates an outfit from drab to fab in a nanosecond. Need more convincing? Check some options here….
are you ready boots? start walkin’
What comes between riding boots and flip flops? No, this is not a fashion riddle. Check these new fun cut out booties on for size – the lower heel makes them flexible for wearing day or night, looks great with so many of your skinny jeans and bonus helps you transition into spring effortlessly. I’m loving these from Report and they come in black and almond. (I got the almond color at Kismet) Cute, comfy and puts a fun new spring in my step. Here are some other ways to put your best foot forward with the cut out bootie trend….(read more)
Confession time: I used to have a major issue with navy. I just didn’t get the point. I mean, I’d rather wear black or grey, my go-to neutrals that go with everything. And every January, without fail, as soon as all of the yummy winter clothes and accessories get relegated to the back sale rack, in comes the navy. In droves. It’s been my practice to employ a no shopping strategy for January and February mostly because it’s all the same stuff we’ve seen for months, I’m usually saving up for spring, and I’d be lying if I didn’t also mention that it’s in part because of navy overload. I’ve recently been shown the error of my ways and it seems I may have misjudged navy. Perhaps even been a little too critical of black’s closest cousin. It took some convincing, but I’m now a navy convert. Big shocker, I know. So, if you must shop during January and February, check out some of my navy nods: 1) My absolute go-to skinny jean is the Forever Skinny from The Gap 30% off with code GAPHELLO 2) ONE by And B navy blouse at shop bop 3) Splendid Deco Stripe Hooded Cardi at shopbop 4) Rachel Roy burnout top in navy at Nordstrom 5) Maison Scotch Fringe Blazer at Cusp 6) Joie Leopard Print blouse at Neiman Marcus 7) J Crew Peasant Top 8) Hive & Honey fold over maxi skirt at Piperlime 9) Robbi & Nikki Navy Smoking Jacket from Joyus
it’s so clutch!
Coming in at a close second place to my sequin obsession, I’m also having a serious metallic moment. A gold or silver bag is the adds the perfect exclamation point to any outfit. Plus it’s a great way to share some holiday sparkle. So, put away your basic black tote or large handbag, and grab ahold of one of these clutches for an evening out. Here are just a few of my faves: 1) Classic Glitter Clutch @ Ann Taylor 2) Moyna Beaded Fold-Over Clutch @ Neiman Marcus 3) Style & Co Gabriella Sequins Minaudier Clutch @ Macys 4) Lauren Merkin Caroline Metallic Snake-Print Clutch @ Last Call 5) Jimmy Choo Rhiane Glitter Clutch @ Neiman Marcus 6) Champagne bubbles pouch @ anthropologie 7) Tooled Flora Clutch @ anthropologie 8) Glitter minaudière @ J Crew 9) Claremont Clutch @ J Crew 10) Clare Vivier Foldover clutch @ Piperlime

not just for showgirls
It’s Holiday season which means say a big giant hello to sequins! Your name doesn’t have to be Lola to pull off these sparkly Holiday looks. Admittedly, we all have our fashion weaknesses – the trends or items you can’t help yourself by buying multiples of? – I guess you could say my weakness is sequins. [My mom’s used to be ski hats.] How much do I love sequins? Let me count the ways: they add a little extra something to your outfit, they can be dressed up or down, and they’re just FUN which is what fashion is all about – having fun. Here are some bright ideas in a variety of price-points – whether you’re heading to a Holiday cocktail party, or hitting up a GNO. Ho Ho Ho Hanukkah
Whether you call it Thanksgivukkah or what have you, I’m a traditionalist when it comes to the Festival of Lights. I like my Hanukkah with a side of Santa thankyouverymuch. As I’ve been trolling the online shopping sites, I’ve encountered a few mind-blowingly awesome and outrageously fab gifts. I can’t exactly justify them as “splurge-worthy” but they are certainly “lust-worthy.” Spoiler alert: They’re also not exactly pocket-book-friendly either. But a girl can dream, right? From top to bottom, left to right: 1) Who doesn’t want a customized pillow of the family pet? $395 at Charles Fradin Home. 2) Because a midnight blue feather bolero goes with everything Holiday attire and beyond $124 by Aryn K at Joyus. 3) 30 pairs of Cosabella thong undies, so you never need to do laundry ever again. You’re welcome. $500 at Neiman Marcus. 4) They call this Botox in a jar. Must. Test. Immediately. $173 at Joyus. 5) Cashmere Robe. Now all you need is some popcorn and a ginormous goblet of red wine and you’re kickin’ it Olivia Pope style. $299 at Restoration Hardware. 6) This Loeffler Randall Maroon Calf Hair Tote spells luxury in all different kinds of ways. $695 at Piperlime. 7) I think I should throw a party just so I can wear this fab sequin maxi dress. $850 at Calypso St. Barth. 8) How awesome is this personalized wine cellar sign? And how even more awesome if I had a wine cellar? $150 at Red Envelope. 9) And if you can’t decide, just sign up for the List – a monthly subscription service from i-ella of fashion and beauty delivered right to your door. Seriously. Starter bag is $50/month; Soho bag is $129/month; St Barth’s is $389/month.
This new store opened up a few weeks ago at The Village – E and I went to the opening party and stocked up on a few items for our Holiday Gift Closets. I also spotted a couple of lust-worthy items to stock my own personal closet as well! I’m kinda having an animal print moment. But without making a major commitment, I favor adding a few leopard accessories in the mix. The jewelry here is so much fun to play with – I could only show a few highlights here. Have fun! It started well before Olivia Pope came on the scene wearing drapey luxurious satin and cashmere loungewear at home with a glass of wine and a bowl of popcorn. When the kids were little we started calling fleece pants or sweatpants or any kind of loungewear” comfy-cozies. And still to this day, we still do, even though they’re 11, 11 and 8 1/2. As I anticipate a certain amount of downtime and time on the DL, I’ve been stocking my shelves with comfy cozies. Here are a couple of my recent finds I just purchased and am rocking at home: 2-pc flannel PJ set @ Target striped long sleeve shirt (super soft) @ Target When it comes to Comfy Cardis, leave Mackelmore out of it and don’t take your grandpa’s style and definitely pass on his hand-me-downs. Comfy cardigans are more flattering when they drape in the right places, making them both wearable at home, a go-to option when traveling or out in the world. Here are some of my faves: Chloe draped Cardigan at Last Call Splendid striped cashmere cardi @ Piperlime Joie boucle cardigan @ Shopbop Vince striped cardigan @ Shopbop Drapey striped cardigan @ Gap Happy Shopping!
Loving these super lightweight not too bulky puffer parkas from Uniqlo. They come in a variety of colors, and the fit is nice and slim. No fussy hoods, or fur, or bunchy pockets – this jacket is your perfect go-to whether you’re walking the dog, heading to the soccer fields, or popping out to a movie. I’d recommend sizing up one size for a perfect fit. At $69, it’s hard not to just get one.
Off the Chain
Well it’s one for the money and two for the show with these blue suede shoes: comfy, cute, pocketbook-friendly, and kinda fun. Enter the Yosi Samra Erica Two Tone with Chain. In yummy dark blue suede, gold chain detail for a little bling, and a little peek-a-boo animal print on the back heel. You don’t have to lay off my blue suede shoes but they do come in other color combos. I got mine at Kismet in San Anselmo. [October 13, 2013]
I spotted these Rails shirts on Joyus.com last week. (Check out the awesome video here) and thought I could rock the renewed Grunge look without looking like a poser (20 years later, I’m not 22 anymore!). Today I wore my cozy flannel top layered over a tshirt and skinny jeans and sandals and topped it off with a cozy scarf. Presto-chango: 1993 meet 2013! [October 12, 2013]
